八 仙 過 海 The 8 immortals passing the East Sea

Translated

【bā xiān guò hǎi 】

It is said that in ancient times there were 8 taoist immortals. They are Tieguai Li, Han Zhongli , Zhang Guolao, Han Xiangzi, Lu Dongbin, Cao Guojiu, Lan Caihe and He Xianggu. The each have a magic weapon that commands supernatural power. Once, together they were going to attend a peach display held by Wang Mu Niangniang. When they have reached the east sea, they stop on their clouds and take a look downward. What they see is only the vast, swirling east sea. Lu Dongbin gazes at it for a long while. An idea occurs to him and he says to the other immortals,” If we all rode the clouds to cross the sea, we wouldn’t be able to show the ability of each of us. I suggest we plunge our magical treasures into the ocean, and let the magic treasures carry us accross .” All the other immortals clap their hands in approval. Thus they all lower themselves from the clouds and plunge their magic treasures in the sea. Tie Guaili sits on his dragon-headed walking stick, while the other immortals stand on their treasures. They all crossed the sea successfully.
” Ba Xian Guo Hai” means everyone has a unique method of a skill to compete with others.
